Animal Health Certificates

Travel to the EU - Animal Health Certificates (AHCs)

Since Britain left the EU, Pet Passports issued in the UK are no longer valid. Cats, Dogs and Ferrets wishing to travel to the EU now require an Animal Health Certificate (AHC). These are more complicated and less flexible than the old Pet Passports. In particular:

  • They can only be used for a single return trip to the EU
  • They can only be issued if it is ten days or less until you travel
  • Your pet must be microchipped (this can be done at the same time as a Rabies vaccine).
  • Your pet must have been vaccinated against Rabies more than 21 days previously
  • Dogs and cats crossed with a "wild" breed, such as Wolf Dogs, Savannah cats and Bengal cats, and dog breeds listed as "Dangerous", cannot be given an AHC.

The rules are complex and continue to be updated - please check official guidance for the latest information.

AHC Prices and Eligibility

Please note that we can only offer Animal Health Certificates to our own regular clients. Animal Health Certificate appointments booked by clients who do not use us as their regular vet will be cancelled. We have introduced this restriction beause we wish to keep prices as low as possible for our own clients without our vets being overwhelmed by those seeking to use us only for an Animal Health Certificate. AHCs are complex and difficult, taking up to two hours - time which it is hard for our busy vets to spare. If you are not a regular Jurassic Vets client, you will need to use your own vet to obtain an AHC.

Service Price PHC Price (Pet Health Club)
Rabies Vaccine/Booster £67.20 £60.48
Animal Health Certificate (up to 4 pets) 355.25 266.44

Important - while our vets will complete an Animal Health Certificate with the utmost care and diligence, Jurassic Vets cannot be held liable for any delays or difficulties encountered while travelling with your pet.

Please note: Our Pet Health Club members benefit from a 25% discount on Animal Health Certificates once they have been members for six months or more.

Pet Travel Beyond the EU

Taking your pet beyond the EU, such as to Australia, New Zealand, the USA or Canada is a very complex process requiring planning many months in advance. It will also be very expensive if your pet is travelling by air, and for your pet a flight can be a very stressful experience - if your move abroad is only temporary please consider whether your pet might prefer to stay at home with friends or relatives.

Pet Travel beyond the EU, or within the EU for species other than cats, dogs and ferrets, must be coordinated by a specialist pet travel agent as the requirements are very complex, sometimes requiring blood samples, vaccinations or complex certificates to be completed within windows of just a few days relative to travel. We will be happy to carry out blood tests, vaccinations etc on the instructions of your appointed agent - you can find one by searching the internet.
